Crispy Bang Bang Shrimp
🧾 Ingredients:
For the shrimp:
- 500g shrimp (peeled & deveined, tails off)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ¾ cup cornstarch (or half cornstarch + half flour for extra crunch)
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- Oil (for frying)
For the Bang Bang sauce:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup sweet chili sauce
- 1–2 tbsp hot sauce (adjust to taste)
- 1 tbsp honey (optional, for extra sweetness)
👩🍳 Instructions:
- Soak the shrimp
Place shrimp in buttermilk for 10–15 minutes (this helps tenderness and coating stick). - Make the sauce
Mix mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, hot sauce, and honey until smooth. Set aside. - Coat the shrimp
In a bowl, mix cornstarch, salt, and pepper.
Remove shrimp from buttermilk, let excess drip off, then coat well in the dry mixture. - Fry until crispy
Heat oil to medium-high. Fry shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels. - Toss in sauce
Lightly toss shrimp in the Bang Bang sauce just before serving (don’t soak too long or they’ll lose crispiness).
💡 Tips:
- For extra crunch, double-coat (dip back in buttermilk, then cornstarch again).
- Air fryer option: spray coated shrimp with oil and cook at 200°C (400°F) for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Serve over lettuce, rice, or in tacos for a full meal.
