🍯🧄 Honey Garlic Chicken
Sticky, glossy, sweet-and-savory chicken with a rich garlic sauce—this is a fast weeknight favorite that tastes like takeout but better.
🛒 Ingredients:
Chicken:
- 1 lb boneless chicken (thighs or breasts), cut into bite-sized pieces
- ½ cup cornstarch (or flour)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp oil (for frying)
Honey garlic sauce:
- ¼ cup honey
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 1 tsp sesame oil (optional but great)
- ½ tsp ginger (optional)
Optional thickener:
- 1 tsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water
Garnish:
- Sesame seeds
- Green onions
👩🍳 Instructions:
1. Coat the chicken
Toss chicken pieces with salt, pepper, and cornstarch until lightly coated.
2. Cook the chicken
Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
Cook chicken in batches until golden and crispy on the outside and cooked through. Set aside.
3. Make the sauce
In the same pan, add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
Add honey, soy sauce, vinegar, and optional ginger. Stir and simmer for 2–3 minutes.
👉 If you want thicker sauce, add cornstarch slurry and simmer until glossy.
4. Combine
Return chicken to the pan and toss until fully coated in the sticky sauce.
5. Finish
Sprinkle sesame seeds and green onions on top.
🍽️ Serve with:
- Steamed white rice or jasmine rice
- Fried rice
- Noodles or stir-fried vegetables
🔄 Variations:
- 🌶️ Add chili flakes or sriracha for heat
- 🍊 Add orange juice/zest for honey garlic orange chicken
- 🍗 Air fryer version: cook chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes, then toss in sauce
- 🥦 Add broccoli or snap peas for a full one-pan meal
💡 Tips:
- Don’t overcrowd the pan—crispy chicken = better texture
- Add sauce at the end so it stays glossy, not soggy
- Thigh meat stays juicier than breast meat
